Positive Behavior

PBS

Southeast Middle School is a PBS Model School.  PBS stands for Positive Behavior Support.  It is a program designed to reward students for positive behavior by improving the school climate.  It is a way to reinforce positive behavior while also finding ways to positively address negative behavior to improve student achievement. Last year we received a perfect 100% score by the state for our implementation.

Some of these positive reinforcements include:

  1. Cougar Bucks
    1. Given at teachers’ discretion for following positive behavior expectations and academic achievement.
    2. Given at administrator’s discretion for following positive behavior expectations and academic achievement.
    3. Cougar bucks may be redeemed at the Cougar Store for supplies or for admission into special events such as dances.

  1. Dances and special events
    1. Students are rewarded with dances and socials (no referrals or disciplinary action for a set period of time).

  1. Free dress for positive behavior or academic success as a grade, class, or group.

  1. Contest and Prizes

  1. Pop surprises for groups following dress code, positive expectations, or academic success

  1. Student of the Month

  1. Cougars Pride Awards

Southeast Middle School is also what is referred to as a Tier 2 School.  This means we have special programs designed to assist certain at-risk students by positively encouraging them to behave in class as well as come to school prepared and ready to achieve.   One of the ways we attain this is through the check-in/check-out system.  This is where students check-in and out with a teacher everyday to discuss their behavior and preparedness in every part of school that day.   Through continued positive results the student can earn their way out of the check-in/check-out program.  This program will help keep each student accountable for their actions at school while also giving them a teacher to mentor them.
