Cougar Band

Description of Course

The Cougar Band is a class that not only teaches students about reading music and playing an instrument.  It is the Cougar Band’s policy to foster the welfare and development of students of music.  Every aspect of music is important and will be emphasized at various stages in a student’s development.  In band class students are encouraged to develop emotional expression, intrinsic growth and to have a positive impact on individuals, families and communities.  Throughout the year the Cougar Band will participate in several school assemblies as well as a concert in December and May.  This year the Advanced Band will also participate in the Louisiana Music Educator’s Association band festival in the spring.

Textbook

In band students will use a variety of texts.  A majority of the time students will use the method book Standards of Excellence which is provided to the students as part of their band fee.  Additional music, such as that used for concerts, will be passed out to the students and then becomes their responsibility.  It is also vital to the band program that students have their instrument in class everyday.
