DESCRIPTON
Family and Consumer Science is the study and application of Life Skills. No one learns in isolation; learning must be tied to real life experiences that are relevant to the student. Students are taught skills necessary to prepare well balanced meals. Many life skills are taught in FACS class safety, sanitation, measurements – dry /liquid, meal preparation, menu planning, table manners and table setting. In the sewing class students use decision making skills, and math skills to select and measure fabric for garment construction. Reading, Writing, Math, English, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music and Research are conducted via the internet and are included in the FACS classroom. Decision –making, Problem solving and small group activities assist students in sharing and making the connections to the core areas. FACS standards as well as state math and science standards are met in this interactive, hands-on, real world experience. FACS classroom prepares youth for life.
TEXTBOOK
The Textbooks for this class are Discovering Life Skills, Applying Life Skills, and Food Nutrition and Wellness. These textbooks will be used in class only. Home work assignments will not require the use of the class textbooks.
