Course Description:

This course is a year long course combining the study of reading, writing, grammar, speaking, and listening. The course content will review basic skills previously taught and teach new skills with emphasis on application of those skills. The course will include many units in which the students will learn how to write multiple paragraph essays, how to present to an audience. They will also be exposed to a variety of literature and literary elements, enhance vocabulary, and instruction in and application of mechanics (grammar). This course is intended to prepare students for success within this year and the years to come.

Textbook:

1. McDougal Littell Literature book will be used in this class. The textbook will be used to read multiple stories throughout the year as well as complete assignments given in the book. Textbooks will not be needed to complete homework assignments. Study Guides will be given for any test the students may have to take. The website for this book is www.classzone.com.
2. Outside sources will be:
1. Writing for Grammar Workbook: workbook full of grammar exercises.
2. InterActive Reader: workbook with short stories and activities that go along with that story
